Medicine Hat is a great place to live with all the amenities, great weather and a strong diverse economy with gas, oil, industrial, farming, ranching and tourism. Our city is growing rapidly and has great potential for the future of your family or business.
Medicine Hat, named after a Blackfoot legend, is commonly identified by two of its most prominent characteristics. “The Hat”, as its known locally, boasts some of the largest natural gas reserves in the world. It also holds the proud distinction of being the “sunniest city in Canada”, with over 2,500 hours of sunshine every year. It is an interesting town situated on the Trans-Canada Highway and set in very arid, almost desert-like terrain. For those looking to explore the area's heritage, the Medicine Hat Museum and Art Gallery—which has some noteworthy native and pioneer artifacts—is well worth visiting. Another popular attraction is the former World's Tallest Tepee, found at the Saamis Archaeological Site. The tepee was created for the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics and was relocated to Medicine Hat in 1991.
The Cypress Hills is a sharp contrast to the prairie scene. This is one of the ‘Best kept Secrets’ of the south. The same elevation as Banff you will find abundant wildlife, scenery, historic sites and two provincial parks only a few minutes south of Medicine Hat or Maple Creek. A great summer or winter retreat.
